Wilmington
Wilmington NC Personal Training has a dirty little secret…
Would You Be Shocked to Know that only 17% of Wilmington NC Personal Trainers Have A College Degree in Exercise Science?
Then who exactly are these other personal trainers that Wilmington NC residents are trusting their bodies (and lives) with?
From: Casey George Physique Designs Personal Training Wilmington, NCI accidentally stumbled across a scary fact when I was trying to help out a friend of one of my clients. She was hoping to lose weight, but lives on the far opposite end of Wilmington. For her to come to me for personal training sessions wouldn’t have been feasible for her schedule. So I told her that I ‘d help her to find a qualified personal trainer to work with.
Little Did I Know How Difficult it is to Actually Find a Qualified, Professional Personal Trainer in Wilmington NC!
I gave her a little list of things to look for when interviewing a Wilmington NC Personal Trainer that looked something like this…
- Does the personal trainer have a college degree in Exercise Science? I made sure to point out the “Exercise Science” part because some personal trainers are slick and will say “Of, course I have a degree” and just leave out the fact that it is in Spanish. There was actually a trainer who worked at my gym who always marketed himself as a Doctor. He’d introduce himself as a doctor, pretend he was a medical doctor, and never let potential clients in on the fact that his Doctorate was in Religion. So be sure to ask outright if their degree is in Exercsie Science.
- Does the personal trainer have at least 5 years experience? I know once in a while, there is a rookie that is just incredible at what they do. Probably 1 in 100. The fact of the matter is that most Wilmington NC personal trainers have been training for 2 years or less. 2 years! This problem started when some of the bigger Wilmington personal training companies decided to start hiring high school and college kids to deliver the services so they could pay them dirt cheap and make all the money. The fact of the matter is, it takes time to become a good personal trainer. I would even admit that I wasn’t an awesome personal trainer until probably my 5th or 6th year. I was good. But with experience comes expertise. So be sure to find out if your trainer has paid their dues and has the experience to help take your body to the next level.
- Does the personal trainer have some references you can chat with? Every resume I’ve ever received has references attached to it. The fact is, it is good to get to speak with other clients that the personal trainer has worked with. A lot of the time, personal trainers toot their own horn a little bit, so it is good to get feedback from someone who was once in your shoes. Ask for a few references just to get an outside point of view.
- Do you like the personal trainer? When it comes down to it, you need to at least like the personal trainer you decide to work with. Think about it, if you absolutely could not stand your personal trainer, wouldn’t it be a lot easier to skip sessions, or find reasons to cancel? Find a personal trainer who has an attitude you like and you’ll be much more likely to succeed.
- Does the personal trainer specialize in everything? If you meet a trainer who claims to specialize in everything, then all that really means is they specialize in nothing at all. Look at doctors. There is a doctor for every part of the body. Not just one general doctor that can fix all ailments. You need your trainer to specialize in your goals. I’ll tell you right here, my main specialty is Fat Loss. I don’t do bodybuilding training, or yoga, or pilates, or triathlon training. Yet you’ll find some trainers that claim they are a specialist at all of those. Don’t fall for it or you’ll end up sorely disappointed.
- Does the personal trainer charge too little? I’m sure some of you expected the question to say too much. However, the fact of the matter is, being a professional Wilmington NC Personal Trainer isn’t cheap. You have to cover rent, business supplies, liability insurance, marketing, etc. At the end of the day, a professional personal trainer in Wilmington will be spending around $12,000-$15,000 per year before they break even. So if you find someone that’s charging any less than .75/min, proceed with caution. I’ve seen too many times where people handed over money to “trainers” who were in fact sneaking into clubs and training only to get banned from the club and take off with the client’s money.
So I sent her on her way to interview some personal trainers and hopefully find one that was a good fit for her. Well after 2 weeks I got some upsetting news from her…
Out of 6 Interviews, She Could Not Find 1 Qualified Personal Trainer in Wilmington!
She took notes and shared them with me:
- Trainer 1 was a guy on craigslist who told me he could be my personal trainer at a gym and would charge only $15/session. When asked who he worked for, he didn’t actually work for a company, but would just do it in his free time. Followed up with the gym and was told nobody by that name was permitted to train there…next!
- The Kid…6 months experience, 18 years old, no degree…next!
- HUMONGOUS BodyBuilder guy…Kept talking about protein and saying she could probably look like a female bodybuilder if she trained right…GROSS! …next!
- Guy by the beach…said he lost a lot of weight, so he didn’t need a degree, cause he had real world experience. Wanted me to sign a contract right away. Studio was small and smelled like pee…next!
- In your house lady…told me she’d do in home personal training…showed up 40 minutes late…blamed it on traffic (at 630 AM???)…I blame it on “SNOOZE” …next!
- Mr. Foo Foo…just waaaaaay too flamboyant for me.
She Didn’t Know Where to Turn
At first I didn’t believe her, after all there had to be someone qualified to train on her end of town. But I made phone call after phone call and it was looking like she was right. I found 1 personal trainer who showed promise, but he only did Wilmington NC Boot Camps and they were in the evening, which would not work for her. Other than that…I found nothing.
The Next Decision Changed Her Life
After realizing how hard it can be to find a qualified personal trainer in Wilmington NC, she decided she had to rearrange her schedule to work with me. She was ready to lose her weight once and for all and she knew I was the top Wilmington NC personal fitness trainer and that she was just wasting time trying to find an alternative.
We began training 3 days a week and before too long she began looking like a new person! She was using my Fat Loss Resistance Training, my “What the F&%k?” Cardio Program, and my “Screw Dieting” Eating Regimen and dropping weight and sizes like nobody’s business. After just 3 months…
She Looked and Felt Sexier Than She Had Since College
I was so excited every time she walked in the door…it was always “Hey, I’m down another 2 pounds” or ‘I just bought a size smaller pants.” It’s so rewarding to see and hear that kind of feedback from my clients. She even told me that…
Her Husband Told Her How Beautiful She Looked For The First Time in 3 Years
Today she continues to work hard and looks incredible! When we started training, she was in a size 10/12 depending on the day. Now a size 4 is comfortable.
